Cary Simowitz is an attorney in the firm’s Connecticut office with a practice focused primarily on insurance coverage, litigation and counseling, and other complex commercial litigation. He is part of the firm’s insurance coverage practice group concentrating on first and third-party coverage matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Cary worked for a well-respected insurance litigation defense firm in St. Louis, Missouri. There, he gained extensive experience counseling insurers on a broad range of complex coverage issues and representing insurers in coverage litigation.

Cary earned his law degree from Washington University School of Law. Thereafter, he obtained a Master of Fine Arts in writing from the University of California. During law school, Cary interned as a clerk for then-U.S. Chief Magistrate Nannette A. Baker and the Office of the Federal Public Defenders, Eastern District of Missouri. His outstanding legal writing and research skills were recognized with the Carmody MacDonald Legal Practice Excellence Award and a Certificate for Excellence in Oral Advocacy. He also served as a judge and Summer Chief Justice of the law school’s honor court in 2015.

When he is not practicing law, Cary works as a national award-winning playwright and screenwriter. Cary’s work has been produced in theaters across the country, including notable developments at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a veteran soloist with the Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic & Legal Voices Choir and served as the St. Louis Regional Ambassador for the Dramatists Guild of America.

  • Obtained favorable judgment via dispositive motion practice for a carrier in insurance litigation arising out of a property damage claim for a faulty window construction project.
  • Obtained favorable judgment via dispositive motion practice for a carrier in insurance litigation arising out of claim for underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Obtained favorable judgment via dispositive motion practice for insured condominium owners in an action involving the Uniform Condominium Act after carrier determined that it owed duty to defend.
