Overview
Omar is a seasoned litigator with deep experience in risk transfer, insurance coverage, and complex liability litigation. He partners with insurers, excess carriers, and corporate clients to evaluate liability exposure, identify risk transfer opportunities, and develop litigation strategies that align with both legal and business objectives.
Omar represents organizations and individuals in litigation matters involving premises and transportation liability, construction defects, New York Labor Law, and other general liability matters involving personal injury. He advises insurers on contractual risk transfer issues, including the interpretation and application of indemnification and additional insured provisions, and regularly evaluates construction contracts, service agreements, and other commercial arrangements to assess coverage obligations and potential avenues for risk allocation.
Omar began his career as a prosecutor in Philadelphia, which provided extensive courtroom and trial experience that continues to inform his strategic approach to complex liability matters. He later transitioned to civil litigation defending various matters, on both sides of the Hudson River, for The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New York metropolitan area’s bi-state transportation agency responsible for operating its airports, rapid transit rail system, major commuter bus terminal, bridges, and tunnels. Prior to joining Gfeller Laurie, Omar spent seven years in private practice, most of them at a large national law firm in their Complex Tort General Casualty group.
Omar is fluent in French and known for his thoughtful analysis, practical problem-solving, and commitment to helping clients navigate complex litigation efficiently and effectively.

- Obtained favorable mediated settlement for a national telecommunications company in a case involving plaintiff seeking $5 million in damages for alleged significant future loss of wages, resolving the matter for less than half of the demand.
- Successfully defended national telecommunications company in a motor vehicle accident case based on plaintiff’s failure to demonstrate a serious injury pursuant to §5102 of New York’s Insurance Law, through use of thorough investigation and motion practice, resulting in favorable settlement well below plaintiff’s six-figure demand.
- Obtained summary judgment for a national telecommunications company in a case alleging inverse condemnation, violations of, deceptive business practices, and New York’s Transportation Corporations Law – a type of eminent domain law specifically afforded to telecommunications companies.
- Secured a unanimous defense verdict, in New Jersey Superior Court, defending a bi-state government transportation agency police officer in an emergency-response motor vehicle accident case.
- Successfully defended a bi-state government transportation agency, at trial in New Jersey Superior Court, against alleged violations of the Federal Employers’ Liability Act. The jury found plaintiff 50% liable and only awarded lost wages, resulting in a sum the agency offered during pre-trial.
