Blogs, Insurance Coverage

On June 3, 2014, Governor Malloy signed into law H.B. 5248, which prevents the expansion and amendment of policies via certificates of insurance. Specifically, H.B. 5248 provides that no person shall: prepare or deliver a certificate of insurance that contains false or misleading information about the referenced policy; prepare an alteration or amendment of a certificate of insurance unless such alteration accurately reflects the referenced policy; or represent that the certificate of insurance confers new or additional rights beyond those provided within the referenced policy. Further, no other document may be prepared in lieu of a certificate of insurance that is inconsistent with the provisions of the law.

H.B. 5248 will take effect on October 1, 2014.
