Managing Partner Melicent B. Thompson Elected as a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel
Congratulations to Managing Partner Melicent B. Thompson for her election as a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel (ACCC). ACCC is an invitation-only organization of 400 preeminent coverage attorneys, which employs a rigorous vetting process prior to inviting a lawyer to become a fellow. ACCC is the association of U.S., Canadian, and Bermudan lawyers who represent the interests of insurers and policyholders. The ACCC’s mission is to advance the creative, ethical and efficient resolution of insurance coverage and extracontractual disputes; to enhance the civility and quality of the practice of insurance law; to provide peer-reviewed scholarship; and to improve the relationships among the members of the legal profession.
Melicent’s insurance coverage law practice encompasses all areas of coverage advice in both the first- and third- party contexts and related litigation services, including declaratory judgment actions, defense of bad faith claims and reinsurance matters. She also has substantial appellate court experience, having briefed and argued appeals before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and both the Connecticut Supreme and Appellate Courts.
Melicent joined the firm in January 2020, bringing with her decades of litigation experience in Connecticut and Georgia. She was elevated to Managing Partner in May 2022. Under her leadership, Gfeller Laurie LLP has grown to a total of 28 lawyers in six offices in the Northeast.
